Perdi-me - I got lost

O espectáculo da trovoada - The thunderstorm show
I have not written for more than a month. I lost myself within myself. I was ashamed to share so much negativity. I'm not sure what love is and I've been lonely. Very lonely.
Although I think I deal well with loneliness, here the feeling of incomprehension and impotence has broke records.
It was a hard month at school. Episodes worth sharing happened the same way but I'll save them for a face-to-face opportunity.
Luckily it's vacation time and I came to travel. Harm the routine and try to experience some enthusiasm in a conversation with beer, a bike ride or meeting someone new.
Undeniable are the homesicknesses I feel, the differences between me and this, and the uncertainty about my future. The persistence with which the ants attack everything that is mine in the village reminds me that my place isn't there.
But I'm still learning a lot.
Not finding a way is still a mix of disappointment and fascination.
(It was good to feel the concern of some of you who follow me here.)

Mau Tempo - Bad Weather

Passei uns dias meio deprimido. As formigas continuam-me a dar uma luta desgraçada.

There were two very hot days. 38 ° that appear to be 45 ° de to the humidity. That's what happen when the rain doesn't knock on the door. I carry a small headache for the same time.
My tolerance has dropped a lot to put up with talkative and hyperactive kids.
Even though there were no morning classes due to national Thai exams (this is already the second day of exams this year), I had to teach in the afternoon. Som went to the doctor. I sent out 4 students in the class of thirteen and I hit the head of the 7 and 8 years old a lot, with a piece of bamboo that I keep in the room.
I was a little depressed for a few days. After deciding not to extend what I had (or had not) with Miss Coke and face the loneliness that I live here, I went deeper into what still holds me here, to teach. To the point of being sick. The weather also doesn't welcome to go to the garden and I haven't had students in Nong Khai. I'm already going to the fourth week in a row here in the village and always eat one of the same 4 or 5 dishes every day. The ants continue to struggle me a lot. What a such creative and organized being. More organized than many people I know.
Good were the months when I knew what I wanted to do. But everything has its time: loves, lives, species, planets, wills. And when we accept this, we grow.
The grandeur of the sky and the possibility of returning to the university to study gave me encouragement.
I already have a date to return to Portugal but I have not decided if I will return to finish the academic year. The future will tell.
I feel that all this is preparing me for something, at least, improvement of character and humility.

Global warming is already a difficult reality to ignore. Glaciers have long been declining, natural disasters are increasing and the artificial ones' potencial too.
Only those who can't change their capitalist habits don't want to see, like some Americans, Chinese, rich people in general, carefree people in general.
The solution to this problem is too obvious for me and has four letters: Tree.
The tree is a system so evolved that man will never be able to reproduce anything like it, although he doesn't appreciate it that much.
A tree produces fruit, wood, lots of organic matter. It's the home of other beings. Roots attract organisms, structure the soil and, most of the time, improve it as well. They provide the coolest shade of all because they are nothing less than a reservoir of water that allows air circulation. A forest can store so much water to the point of creating streams and waterfalls. They clean the soil and the air of toxins and sometimes water too. And most importantly, they take the carbon out of the air and keep it in themselves and on the ground.
We can change our car from Diesel to electrical but we can also grow trees. A cleaner solution, I would say.
Whether here or in Portugal or anywhere in the world, there are those who escape the heat and take refuge in their air-conditioning. The air-conditioned villas in Dubai, the shopping centers or supermarkets, the cars, the office of the director or the living room of my parents. There they are all saving their butt by now and make the life of the next one worse.
The conditioned air emits gases that aggravate the greenhouse effect. It's a snowball that each day is harder to stop. I know most people don't think, but what the hell of world do they want to offer to their children?
Everyone is too busy trying to make money for a future that is being degraded every day. We will leave this responsibility in the hands of our corrupted leaders with superegos, and thirsting for power and money.
I don't really have high hopes for humanity. From where I've been and from what I've seen, I found a lot of mind affected by society or a lot of selfish nature. Who decides to go by bicycle to the restaurant instead of the car, just because it's better for the environment, bringing some discomfort to oneself? I know. Some, but very few.
Portugal is running out of water and breaking records of fires. There are those who set fire for a large commission of the firefighter planes, the insurance of the land or simply to see a great piece, since their smallness doesn't allow them for more. Again, sick minds or selfishness.
Our selfish nature might have made sense many years ago. Today we are many and our actions influence others and they will quickly knock back on our door.
Plant trees, for your children.

Dia da Mãe - Mother's Day

I’m in!
Fez-me esquecer o Inglês e o desafio a que me comprometi.

Today was mother's day here. Less a day of classes, a little homage to the queen and a funny ceremony for the mothers.
I brought the cards with which I teach how to read for an opportunity that didn't happen. Some teachers and students made a little film to honor the mother/child relationship and I was quite impressed. I even got emotional a bit. By congratulating them, they told me that they want my participation in the next short film which the theme will be the protection of Nature. I'm in!
Just as on teacher's day, the students had the opportunity to offer flowers and crouch to their mothers. Then there is the hugging moment and a lot of crying. It was really emotional and I was happy to see so much feeling expressed without shame. Seeing that very old ladies take care of three or four children, or the feelings of students who have no mother or who don't have her around, was powerful and inspiring to do more for these children.
It made me forget the English and the challenge to which I committed myself. It also reminded me of how lucky I am in having a family "together." (The quotes are because of me)

It was a very hot day (it's like this when it doesn't rain). And I'll have a free weekend ahead where I'll have time to move forward with many of the ideas I have to improve the curriculum and make the classes more efficient.

Tempo para perceber o que sinto - Time to realize what I feel

O tempo continua enublado e eu agradeço.

I had a free weekend again. I have time to realize what I'm feeling.
The weather is still cloudy and I'm glad. There were always classes this week and I started to see good progress in some classes. My ideas for improving the curriculum and the classes don't stop coming up and I barely have the time to implement them. I'm very curious to see what will be the results of this enthusiasm.
I think I have European things that don't change easily. Like work hard and isolate myself a little more.
I've been missing love. To feel it. That sublime, inspiring form that illuminates us from within. Somehow, connected to art. To which time has also not being enough for.
Today I ran away from my routine and came to find myself in a shelter of someone with a view to a rice field.
It has been very difficult for me to confront the Facebook videos that tell me that the planet is full of plastic and see the accelerated consumption of it, here. At the small restaurant/grocery store, I look at the products and think about what can I buy without plastic. Eggs, some tools, a few bottled drinks in glass and the meals that have fed me. Nothing else.
In the morning, in the garden, more trash found, some plants gone because the gardener went to cut the grass, and an adult banana tree sent down ... by a bunch of bananas.
I can imagine a solution for the world, or rather for the human species (because the planet has time to regenerate itself): more than half of people work for reasons other than money. But it is far from happening.
There is a thought that rests me: After the dinosaurs came a more developed species. After man will come another one too. But it's difficult to be aware of all this.

Os professores também são políticos - The teachers are also politicians

A cerimónia é chata.
Lá o director me consegue dizer.
A tarefa estava terminada.

A minha indignação - My indignation

Today was the king's birthday. There were no classes. The school received the guidelines for the ceremony. The teachers planned how they would walk, how they would decorate the room, what they would wear.
The ceremony is boring. The students are in line, now they have to be standing, sometimes sitting, sometimes saluting.
Teachers who attend, when they can, go back to Facebook. I can feel the impatience of the children.
After photographs with students, teachers and the new king's picture on the background, it's planned that students, divided in three groups, have tasks as garbage collection, plantation of trees given by the government, or buildings cleaning. In the group of the younger ones, which are going to pick up the garbage, is Som, and I join them. I start picking up trash with them, while the immaculate teachers just herd them. The students come to help me but the orders are to move forward. I stay behind because they are not picking up all the trash.
A teacher comes to me and tells me to go and help the group planting trees. Either because I have a hoe or because I was doing the other task too well.
Wonder what trees are. Nobody knows. There the director can tell me. There are many trees. I know there's no space in school. But they will be planted outside near the shore of the lake. They begin to plant the trees at a distance of one meter and I tell them that it is very close. But as it is too difficult to stretch the distance, they say don't worry. Since there are only three hoes for almost 65 students, I'm going to get the trash bin near my house so the others can help me to clear the area. It's an area where teenagers usually go to drink whiskey and smoke. The plastic bags where the trees were, were already being left on the ground, while the teachers, smiling, take photos showing the baby trees. The students start to place the bags in the bucket and the ones who like me, also help me with the garbage.
The task was finished. The teachers were in a hurry to go, I don't know where. Younger teachers take more pictures hanging on swings and smiling.
I have come to the conclusion that the laziness of the Thais has an unavoidable reason. The weather. It's very hot here and they have plenty of water. Since May it rains almost every day, and a lot, and it will be like this until September. Everything grows everywhere. They have many varieties of fruits and edible leaves. They don't have to work hard. Now look at the Canadians, the Finnish, the Swedes, the Danes, the Germans. They have to be creative to survive in the winter. They have to pull by their head and be organized. The Portuguese too, but less (not so cold). I know that it's difficult to impose my European rhythm on these people, but this hypocrisy, of the form without content, kills me.
Is there a place without smart phones?

(After three months, only two of the dozens of trees survived having the same size. I also realized that the place is a passage and pasture for dozens of buffaloes daily.)

Estou a enlouquecer? - Am I getting crazy?

A escola está mais limpa. No meu jardim tenho várias espécies a crescer bem.
Começo-me a sentir impotente.
A quem ando eu a ajudar?
Estarei a ver tudo negro novamente?

The school is cleaner. In my garden I have several species growing well. But today I'm very sad.
This week I taught just a few hours and for the next one there will be a new activity that again, will take study hours from the kids. The morning class was very bad. Whenever I have to teach something new, I have to start from scratch, even for the elders. Two classes don't have books. The school says it has no money. Where did the money go? To the house where I live? I realize that the government doesn't want smart people. They're harder to control. I begin to feel helpless. I can see progress, especially in the younger ones, who get excited easily, but they don't give me time for more. I knew this wasn't a paradise too, but I tried not to think about it so much. By the eighth month that I am here, there is no way to ignore it. I feel my arms locked. Am I going crazy with this challenge?
At lunchtime, it's terrifying to see how many children buy instant food or use a plastic cup for a minute to drink juice. Somgit controls the business. An excellent extension of his small shop next to his house. Is this education? Food full of preservatives and artificial flavors and careless use of plastic? Who am I helping?
Am I seeing everything black again? Am I a chronic depressive?
It seems that the lead singer of Linkin Park followed the example of his friend (a kiss to you sis).
Or am I just demanding too much from these people the humans?
