Talvez deva resfriar as expectativas.

This morning, between classes, I looked out the window and I recognized this melancholic calmness. The same as the end of a passion, of a stage.
First, rare elements that warm my heart, dazzle me, then comes the uncertainty of being at the level of the connection. Following the commitment, hard work and effort to maintain something that doesn't seem to stick naturally. Getting close to madness, the fear of there being nothing else, the desperation to recover past feelings. And finally, the acceptance, the rest, the freedom and the feeling of being older (wise).
I like to commit myself with the whole heart, dreaming. Maybe I should cool down the expectations. Just let it be what it is.
So was my passion for Ban Kuat.

Escravatura Moderna - Medern Slavery

Have you ever heard of modern slavery? I don't think it's much talked about. I'll try to explain how it works as the way I see it. It's much more subtle than the old slavery, more efficient for the same reason (less obvious) and the tool to apply it, couldn't be any other than.. money.
Symptoms: Prices rise steadily, wages not really, television fills you with fear and suggests you unnecessary products, taxes go up, you feel sucked by everything and everyone, you pay much for poor food, you're always running, you don't have enough time for family and friends, you feel lonely and you think you could be a better person. You are always thinking about vacations and weekends (if you have them). The world doesn't seem to become a better place from day to day.
If you feel most of these symptoms in your life then you are a modern slave.
An intelligent system that spreads naturally giving the sense of privilege by possession of goods or by a position of control of sub-slaves.
But the most precious you don't have: TIME. Call me crazy but I put all this aside. If you were to choose between a long slave life or a short on of freedom, which would you take?
Do you still think you're really free?

Distanciamento - Detachment

Distanciei-me e a revolta já não me perturba.

I went back to school. Three days have passed and the same problems remain. Som forgets about her classes, two classes remain without a book, the restless students of the 7th grade are still restless, the 9th grade is still not coming to the classes (now for some competition), I don't have internet anymore in the classroom and nobody solves it, and the water is constantly missing in the bathroom. Teaching remains completely marginalized in this small village, but I no longer suffer with it. I have distanced myself and the revolt no longer disturbs me. I've already decided that I won't be back after Christmas. Why can I not get away from these problems without thinking of leaving? I don't know.
I will come back to Thailand one day but not to teach here.
I look at my work now. I can communicate with 8 year olds in poor English/Thai. Imagining the progress over time in the students who continue to absorb my teaching is tempting. They are unlucky that I'll leave, but they were also lucky that I've come. I feel that I can be beneficial in many places in the world but I cannot forget to be beneficial to myself.

Ser Mais Paciente - Be More Patient

The week in Chiang Mai is over. An interesting place that unites the organization and sophistication of a more Westernized and Christian people with the resplendent Nature of Thailand. I had the pleasure of getting to know the Taew's community. Young farmers who want more than money. They want a happy life with their loved ones and with the feeling that they are making the world better. Whether for a son's love, or a King's love, or a divorce's pain, what matters is to see clearly and wake up proud with what you do.
In a conversation with Taew, some ideas that I have had, got organized and seem important for me to be more patient about how fast people become aware: In Chiang Mai there are more projects that care about the environment but I didn't see poverty . They are more developed. In the same way when comparing London with Lisbon.
Before I wanted to be a revolutionary permacultor I wanted to have lots of money. I was raised with everything or almost everything. I had nearly a top education. The generation of my parents, on the other hand, battled hard to offer the best to their children and enjoyed some (not much) materialism. Environmental issues are everyone's problem but are only thought of in the 1st world countries (and not all) where basic needs are no longer a problem.

O tuga trabalha enquanto os outros olham. Tou a brincar :)
The portuguese works while the others look. Just kidding :)

Tatuagens - Tattoos

When I see someone tattooed, the impression I get is that this person is exotic, sexy, wild.
But it can be just the image, like on Facebook.
'Cause where it's truly wild and free is here (heart).
Often tattoos look just like dirt.

Interesse Profissional - Professional Interest

 < ----- /\ ----- >

I'm still receiving many invitations for job interviews. It doesn't mean that they are interested or see anything special in me. This is also the routine function of young recruiters. Maintain a database of possible entries.
I have been ignoring them religiously but I have been thinking that maybe I 'm missing opportunities to reach the hearts of these young people. With a response like this:

Hello,
My name is Carlos, I'm 39 years old and I like to code. I consider myself intelligent, responsible and very creative, but I don't want to have a very high position or a great career. I'm very honest (as you may have noticed) and I like to work in a captivating environment where the team works with passion for a better world and not just for money and for the company's profit and growth. If, as in my past experiences, employees are sad, the only motivation that drives them is the fear of losing their job and they are treated as resources rather than people, don't count on me. If the well-being of employees and the ethical-socio-environmental impact are a priority in relation to the company's profit, I will be delighted to continue the conversations with you.

A Raiva é uma Dádiva - Anger is a Gift

Eles têm o poder, dinheiro e a lei.

Today, Taew brought me to a university in Chiang Mai for a meeting between organic and permaculture farmers. The aim is to discuss what strategy to take against the intention to create a law that prohibits the storage or sharing of seeds, forcing farmers to always buy them. (I am a little ashamed of not knowing how Portugal is in terms of this law that I think was established in 1978). I also have to say who's "promoting" this law to the governments. There are 6 companies that control 75% of the business of seeds, pesticides, genetically modified organisms and even medicines. (Here are the 6 companies (in 3 partnerships) to hate later: Monsato/Bayer, ChemChina/Syngenta and Dupont/Pioneer) As Jon Jandai has said and well, nowadays governments are controlled by large companies and members of the Thai parliament have a month to decide whether to accept it or not, being 80% of the votes required. (Which coincidentally happens at the same time of the king's funeral). The bad and absurd consequences are so many that I don't even bother to think about them, but they here, discussed them, called for rationalization and try to perceive the game of law to play it too. Of the two solutions found, one is to transmit in a simplified way, this new intention to the population, and the other, by suggesting a new law with the permission to save and share the seeds.
I didn't say anything but my question is: So what if companies bribe the parliament? What are these solutions for? I'm not in favor of playing their game. We have no chance. This is a war. They have power, money, and the law. We have the truth, the dignity of a free being on this planet, and we can have the people and the courage. I don't believe that the heart should be calmed. "Anger is a gift" is a phrase from a well-known band of my generation. I look at history and many of the revolutions that gave us the comfort we have now were conquered by heroes who moved crowds and were often arrested or killed.
The struggles we are fighting today, as well as the "Fire Industry", need leaders. Sacrifices. Heroes.
And if you have doubts that the power is on our side, imagine what would happen if firefighters go on strike next summer.
