Discurso - Speech

Olá! O meu nome é Carlos e vim de Portugal. Estou aqui com a missão de melhorar o Inglês dos estudantes de Ban Kuat. As pessoas tratam-me bem aqui e as crianças são das mais puras e vivas que já encontrei. Foi aqui que percebi que adoro ensinar e é aqui que estou a aprender a ensinar.

O que me permite estar aqui a ensinar foi a educação que tive nas escolas portuguesas, dos meus pais e das pessoas que me têm rodeado ao longo da vida.

Aprender inglês não é fácil e eu só me tornei fluente aos 30 anos. É preciso tempo. Vejo estas crianças como sementes. Se tiverem o alimento necessário, sol e água, podem crescer extraordinariamente. Quando começam a ler, deixam de precisar de tantos cuidados. Começam a crescer por elas próprias.

Quando aqui cheguei poucos alunos sabiam ler e faço intenções de sair daqui com 80% dos alunos a ler.

A educação na Tailândia é má mas há algo de muito fácil que pode ser feito e trazer resultados imediatos. Ensinar a carga horária estipulada. Cerca de 30% das aulas não são dadas devido actividades como a de hoje. Em três dias, os alunos de Ban Kuat perderam horas preciosas de ensino por causa deste evento.

É fácil sermos melhores. Basta haver vontade. Obrigado.

Hello! My name is Carlos and I came from Portugal. I am here with the mission to improve the English of the students of Ban Kuat. Here, people take good care of me and the children are the purest and most alive I have ever met. It was here that I realized that I love teaching and this is where I am learning how to teach.

What allows me to be here teaching was the education I had in Portuguese schools, my parents and the people who have surrounded me throughout life.

Learning English isn't easy and I only became fluent at age of 30. It takes time. I see these children as seeds. If they have the necessary food, sun and water, they can grow extraordinarily. When they begin to read, they no longer need so much care. They start to grow on their own.

When I arrived here, a few students knew how to read and I wanted to leave here with 80% of the students reading.

Education in Thailand is bad but there is something very easy that can be done and bring immediate results. Teach the stipulated workload. About 30% of classes aren't given due to activities like the one today. In three days, Ban Kuat students lost precious teaching hours because of this event.

It's easy to be better. It only requires will. Thank you.
